| Not many photos from
Charlottesville where we stayed with friends for almost a week. This is the
road down from Shepherdstown to Charlottesville. At some point we had to
cross the Appalachian mountains and the Blue Ridge Highway. |  |

We went out for dinner one night to a fondue restaurant. This was a new
experience for us. An excellent meal with beef and pork and chicken and
shrimp. |
| Eventually we moved on
and stayed a couple of nights at High Rock Lake near Lexington, still in
North Carolina. |  |

The position was wonderful, at the side of the lake with our own swinging
seat. |
| Equally important was the
fact that we had two warm days and so were able to sit outside and enjoy the
warmth. It has been quite cold in the last couple of weeks. |  |

Many campsites are close to main roads but this is away from roads and even
away from trains. It was very peaceful. |
| With very little wind
there were reflections at certain times of the day as the sun moved across
the sky. |  |

But we only had a few days left and we needed to move on. Heading south of
the interstate we spotted this sign as we passed by Charlotte. IKEA has made
a significant impact in the US. |
| Many small towns try to
make their water towers more interesting but this is distinctly more unusual
than most. |  |

We found another woodland site just outside Townville in South Carolina. |
| We walked down to the
lake and spotted the geese. |  |
 |
We think some are younger than the others but I'm not sure which is which. |
| The water level of the
lake is well down - almost 20ft. This makes getting the boats in and out
very difficult since the boat ramp no longer reaches the water. This is
despite the rain they had from superstorm Sandy just to the east of here.
Again it was very calm. |  |
