16th October 2012 - New York City - Central Park Wildlife

The statue at the southern end of Central Park is of General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-92). I guess he came from New York.
There are small ponds and bridges as we wander north.
The ubiquitous city dweller the world over - the starling. No fear of people.
Another bridge. It can be hard to realise you are in the heart of a huge city.
Only the skyline gives it away.
A rather more bizarre figure - this is a statue of Wladyslaw Jagiello, King of Poland 1386-1434 and the victor over the Teutonic aggressors in 1410. Go figure....
A map of the park which is over two miles long and about 6 city blocks wide. We made it about halfway up (about 20 blocks) having walked from 33rd St first.
A faux castle in the middle. I guess we would call it a folly.
Turtles in Turtle Pond below the castle walls.
Close up I think they are really ugly.
One of several statues outside the Shakespeare theatre - Romeo and Juliet....
The open air Shakespeare theatre viewed from the folly.
The rings are for baseball - but not at a professional level.
Just to show we were there and it was sunny.
