13th October 2012 - New York City - Lower Manhattan

We walked on into the city to find a coffee bar for a sandwich. We watched the traffic chaos as the fire brigade turned up to a false alarm.
The squirrels raid the garbage bins consuming anything we don't eat. They have learnt to ignore the people. It was amazing to watch this one hanging on by its rear feet while it rummaged in the garbage.
The ornate spire of a church complete with lights to create a display at night.
The gold roof on this building is quite striking but I've no idea which building it is.
The most photographed building in New York is the Flatiron building. It is fairly unique.
The detail is amazing and covers the whole building.
The rounded corners are very typical of the 1930s art deco styles.
We walked down to Washington Park where there is an arch with these sculptures on one side.
The arch is similar to those you see in many European cities.
.An alternative form of transport where everybody works.
Another of those vertical car parks slotted into a tiny space.
Eventually there will be four towers at the World Trade Centre to replace the two destroyed on 9/11.
It is not easy to see much at the site because they are so security conscious. The second tower is under construction.
But there are still artistic older buildings with significant decoration.
The PATH train home as we change to go to Hoboken.
