3rd-4th November 2011 - Santa Rosa CA to Olema CA - Sonoma Valley Architecture

Santa Rosa is the home town of Charles Schultz who created Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Lucy in Peanuts. There is a museum in the town but we never found it. We did however find many statues of Lucy but not of the others.
I'm not sure but I think this is a statue of Woodstock, Snoopy's 'mechanic' bird friend.
A very studious Marcie with Jan looking over her shoulder. A little larger than I imagined....
There are several seats like this. We particularly liked the shape at the top cut to match the pictures.
Occupy Santa Rosa - an offshoot of Occupy Wall Street/Oakland/.... Rather lower key I think. 1% representing the 98% in the middle who are mostly too busy trying to make ends meet to be occupying anything.
So we drove down from Santa Rosa to Sonoma. The Sonoma Valley is much like Napa Valley only shorter (only about 15 miles) and not quite so upmarket. You can still get a free wine tasting here.
It struck me as a bit more workaday. Not quite as rich but getting there. Bordeaux rather than St Emilion.
Eucalyptus trees are common in this area but not usually this large. I think this predates the Civil War!
They do like the murals on the sides of buildings. This is more common than graffiti in places we have been. And it is usually historical rather than political in its message.
A genuine old car, one which works but is still cared for, although I think its primary task these days is marketing.
The town hall at Sonoma. It is really quite a small town. The only large things here are trees.
So après le 'wine tasting' we have le 'chocolate tasting'. I guess for the tourists.
A reminder that this area was all once Mexican. This is the Sonoma Mission. A bit of history.
As in England you can get a customised number plate. This caught our eye just outside the Mission.
