The South Riding RV Travels

30th October 2011 - Las Vegas NV - Daytime

There is a Cirque de Soleil show based on the Beatles' 'Love' at the Mirage. There are at least 20 Elvises alive and kicking although most seem to be in his more corpulent 'late' period.
Part of the huge Caesar's Palace complex includes the Forum shops. Yet more shops where 'If you can't see the price......'
Lots of your favourite characters are out there hustling for a photo opportunity. Some of the costumes looked very unsuitable for the heat of the day.
Next to Caesars's Palace is the Bellagio. Very much the upper end!
We went inside one of the malls for lunch. You quickly lose sense of what time of day it really is because the 'sky' is painted.
But on the hour and half hour they have thunder and lightning and a rainstorm. I suppose it is to make the out-of-towners feel at home. The sky gets very murky!
Outside is yet another high end shopping mall. Spectacular architecture (and prices I expect).
Just to the south of the Strip is the Hard Rock Cafe but the Harley Davidson cafe is on the Strip. The motorbike is about 5 times life size.
More artistic bikes are at ground level although the seats are probably a bit prickly.
More sky high architecture with the advertising built into the windows. I presume one can still see out.
One of the casinos we wanted to visit was the Paris. The architecture certainly looks very French.
Towering above it is a replica Eiffel Tower. You can take a ride up it although it is not as tall as the original.
They also have a replica Arc de Triomphe although again it is not as big as the original.
Another shot of the tower taken later in the day. The sun is very powerful but the shadows get quite long by mid afternoon.
Yes I think it is still the original. A little greyer and older and it may still be his own hair. He's probably a bit slower too but he can still pack in the crowds.
Americans have a fascination with the custom hot rod, something which is almost unknown elsewhere in the world.
And so back to Treasure Island which is next door to the Mirage and opposite Harrahs from whence our shuttle will depart shortly.
Just time for a quick wander around the 'shoppes' in 'Venice'.
Another gondola setting off on the tour along the canals which are a feature in the Venetian.
There are some female gondoliers but they all have to be able to sing (and a bit more than 'one cornetto'!)
