3rd-5th October 2011 - Vancouver BC - Part II

Two of the days we went into the city by bus. The third day we went in by the Seabus which is part of the same transport system. This is the terminal at the Vancouver end with the station building behind.
A Seabus ferry crossing to North Vancouver. Ferries cross about every 15min. They carry people only and are double ended so they don't need to turn round.
A huge container ship came in while we were there. A couple of tugs pushed it in the last few feet. The cranes were unloading it almost before it had stopped moving and it had left two days later.
It was generally quite overcast but just occasionally a sunbeam came out and made even unattractive places look good.
There are 16 containers across the deck and they are seven high. Its maiden voyage was in April 2011. It carries 8500 containers.
One of the central train yards right in the city centre next to the station.
One of the express commuter trains which travel to Mission City (about an hour away). They run in peak hours Monday to Friday. The carriages are double decked.
We caught the local train which runs mostly underground. They are quite attractive.
Inside as we travelled three stops across the city centre. The Seabus, trains and buses can all be used with a single ticket which is valid for 90 minutes.
This is a real transport hub with a helicopter pad at the side of the train yard.
A bit further along is the seaplane port with planes coming in and out every few minutes. Some of these fly to Victoria on Vancouver Island.
A slightly larger plane with a few more passengers perhaps flying up to Bella Coola or one of the other towns on the coast with no road access.
Advertising on a bus. We went to these gardens (see next pages) There are also many trolleybuses.
Just to complete the transport set we have a Tesla kit car. I'm not sure it wasn't parked illegally but it was certainly getting a lot of admiring glances.
