The South Riding RV Travels

Sometimes we just stay on the campsite, and in common with many people, go for a constitutional stroll around. This was a big site with over 450 sites, mostly seasonal for the snowbirds and the locals, being not far from Chicago.

The US is full of trees and people who do things with wood. On the campsite we found this family of bears clambering up a tree. Very slow though, they didn't move all the time we were there!

There were three lakes around the site and all were very full, overflowing their banks and creeping into the camping areas. They reckon they have had over 120inches of snow here this winter and were snowed in for days on end.
The credit squeeze is really biting over here and house prices are much lower and falling fast. I know this is only a holiday home, but we could have bought it, furnished, for $21000, that's about £10500. And the owner was keen to reassure folk that he genuinely wanted to sell! Given there must have been another 40 places for sale on the site, I can see his problem.
This was part of it! I don't think the lake will rise much further but....

Site fees are about $2500 a year and that includes electricity so it seemed like a good deal to us - if you want a getaway, miles from anywhere, or are passionate about fishing..

All the lakes were full, almost submerging the landing stages and causing problems for the satellite TV dishes. There are an awful lot of willows around here, and they are about the only tree in leaf as yet.
Wisconsin is known for its dairy products and particularly its cheese. It is also very popular with the Scandinavian immigrants and this reflects in the architecture, the people and the humour...
Most people are very proud of their 'cottages' and take great pains to make them individual to them. This is a 3Dsural on the apex of one of the little garden sheds each property seemed to have (to store the golf cart!)
There were a number of apparently new log cabin type cottages which had been bought by the site owners for renting out. However closer examination revealed them to be trailers, clad in 'logs'. We didn't get a chance to look inside but they are probably very well appointed.
