The South Riding RV Travels

Rick & Jan's route - April 2008

Well off we go again! With a plan to start where the RV was left over the winter in Lorain, near Cleveland, Ohio, and then to head west to Wisconsin and Minnesota, what do we do, but head east! We thought we had better visit our friends in Springville or else we would not see them for a couple of years. Also we suddenly realised just how cold it still is over here and how few campsites open before April 15th or even May 1st.

So we visited our friends then headed south into Pennsylvania. We had half a mind to visit Longwood Gardens, near Philadelphia, again, but decided nothing much would be blooming in the gardens yet, so we stopped and chilled out in deepest Pennsylvania. Then we headed west back to Cleveland to revisit our Ohio hosts (he had been away when we first arrived). Then on, via Elkhart, through Chicago and into Wisconsin.

Campsites are still not easy to find but we have been lucky and at the end of the month we visited the 'House on the Rock'. This is a must-visit place in the USA and we took over a thousand photographs between us.

We are travelling fewer miles this year, and taking life easier, so this month sees us covering 1230 miles rather than our usual close to 2000 average. Fuel prices are also much higher now than when we first started travelling, and almost doubled since 2005. And they are rising quickly, we found the gas stations at one stop all raised their prices by 35 cents a gallon between our arrival on the forecourt and our departure. It now costs almost $200 to fill up.

The weather has been cold and very wet and stormy. Lets hope summer arrives soon...
