| We had planned to spend a couple of days travelling
down from Sleeping Bear dunes but we had trouble finding a campsite so we
ended up travelling all the way down to Elkhart in Indiana. This gave us a
day of rest! Time to do the laundry! There was a rally on at the Elkhart
site for El Sharro vans (small Winnebagos). However it was this small
caravan providing extra sleeping accommodation for one which caught our eye. |  |

Also worthy of note was this ancient camper which was part of the rally but
I've no idea what type it actually was. However of its age there was no
doubt. |
| We stopped in Elkhart looking for a new silencer
(muffler) for the generator and a new step to replace the one I demolished
on a concrete block in Pennsylvania. Then we headed east towards Ohio. We
caught this in one of the rest areas. The tractor unit has a slide out. We
weren't quite sure whether this was an RV or something else. Unusual,
certainly! |  |

And this truck was pretty colourful. It was actually hauling car paint or at
least that is what the company makes. Striking!. |
We also stopped in Lorain, Ohio to pay the annual road tax on the camper
which was due, before travelling on to our base in Springville, New York State.
We stayed a couple of days to fit the new parts and carry out a few other
repairs/enhancements, such as fitting valve extenders to the double rear wheels
so that we can maintain the tyre pressures more easily.

This American jeep is quite rare. This particular model was very prone to
understeer and most of them were disposed of. They were all supposed to be
chopped into four and sold for parts. This one was obtained complete from
Canada and is thus somewhat of a celebrity. |  |

Taxis in Englan are usually black, but in the US they are yellow. But they
don't make them this big today. |
| Custom cars are a very American hobby. Here the engine
has been painted and chromed. Very smart. |  |

They were having a competition for the best Corvette on the evening. While
we were there, this was the winner since it was the only example of this
very popular car. |
| Britain tends to have vintage cars, but in the US they
have old styles but then soup them up. Not much of this would be original. |  |

think this is a 1957 Chevrolet but I could be corrected. Apparently this is
such a popular and classic style that they have built modern copies in the
same style. However I think this is an original. |
| Since this is our host's car which he was persuaded to
park in the lot, I should know what it is. However apart from it being a
Ford, I can't remember. This item at least will be upgraded. |  |

could always fancy an open top tourer especially one looking like this. Very
American! |
