23rd-26th April - Flights to USA Planes

We started from Bordeaux airport with this colourful EasyJet flight to Luton. EasyJet is one of Europe's low cost airlines, with no frills. But on a 1 hour flight, does it matter?
From Bordeaux we fly over the town of Blaye on the Gironde estuary which fits the frame nicely. Blaye has one of the forts (citadel) which protected Bordeaux from invaders (English) sailing up the estuary. It was designed by Vauban and was completed about the same time that technology made this type of defence obsolete.
Flying into Luton we are reminded how much of the land is now used to produce oil seed rape which causes so much of our allergy problems these days. Fortunately there seems to be little in the Bordeaux area.
An overnight stop in London before flying to JFK by a BA 747. You forget how big these planes are. But the flight is painless, especially with some decent and recent films to choose from.
The flight across the pond goes in a circle and we reach land somewhere over Newfoundland before flying down the eastern seaboard. We left Bordeaux at 34ºC. It doesn't look that warm down there!

On arrival US immigration was almost civilised. I think they have realised that they are the face of America and have developed a few people skills. Security is still very tight but does now seem to be a little more consistent than it has been in the past.

We fly onward from JFK to Buffalo. A short flight of only 45 mins but a full plane delays takeoff and we miss our slot on a busy runway.

Flying into Buffalo, we cross Lake Erie which seems to be still full of white stuff!. Apparently they have only just removed the ice boom which stops the ice blocking Niagara Falls over the winter. It looks (and is) cold down there still. Given that we are now over 100 miles further south than we started it is a surprise to find that the trees still have no leaves and the daffodils are just blooming. They are about 3 weeks behind England and even further behind France.

Lets hope it gets warmer!
