Rick & Jan's Route - October 2005

Lake Tahoe NV to San Diego CA

The intention was to reduce the monthly mileage from here on and as such we planned only 1700 miles for October. But we kept finding interesting places to visit along the way so we ended up travelling over 2600 miles. Still above the planned average. And that was with a couple of time oout periods. But the scenery was wonderful. Lake Tahoe is a large lake surrounded by tourism places and homes of the very wealthy. We had an impromptu revisit of Yosemite. Then on to Death Valley before visiting Zion and Bryce Canyons in the last week they are really open. South to the Grand Canyon which is more than worthy of its name, before heading west to Los Angeles and San Diego.

Here at the end of October we don't actually have a plan for November. We do want to return to the Joshua Tree National Park which we passed on the way here. We have friends to visit in Phoenix and several folk have told us to visit Sedona. We probably also need to have crossed most of Texas by the end of the month. I think a brief foray into Mexico is unlikely. We don't want to tempt providence with the immigration people and end up being stuck there. So for the moment we are just chilling out. Quite literally because California is still covered in fog and has temperatures in the low sixties.

The numbers don't quite reflect days because sometimes I have had to put in waypoints to persuade the mapping software to show the correct route.
