Kelham Island Industrial Museum
Kelham Island Industrial Museum, set in
central Sheffield brings together a rare and evocative collection of artefacts and information relating to Sheffields mighty industrial past.
The centre piece of the collection is undoubtedly the massive River Don Steam Engine. This 12,000 Hp engine which once drove the rolling mills producing armour plate for battleships is maintained in steam and runs regularly. In addition to
being a fascinating family attraction, the museum has been the setting for many folk music and dance events including, since 1995, the South
Riding Folk Network Mayfest
(pictured above) and in 1998, the venue for the 'Biggest Ceilidh Band in the World' The splendid Victorian Exhibition Hall
(pictured left) will provide the base for competition, exhibition, bar, craft fair and Sunday workshops. The Melting Shop and Scope Gallery provide interactive activities for children.
