The New Barrack Tavern - surprisingly enough, is just below the Sheffield barracks on Penistone Road and 200 yards from Burton Street.

Landlord James Birkett has built an enviable reputation for stocking well kept real ales from all over the country. The selection changes regularly in this friendly pub which also serves excellent food. The Wednesday evening international menu is a gourmets delight. The main bar has a fine wooden floor and dancers are most welcome. The Barracks is regularly featured as CAMRA “pub of the month” and in 1998 was “pub of the year” and runner up in the “all Yorkshire” competition.
